EC law in Massachusetts puts all eyes on Gov. Romney
Legislation on emergency contraception’s availability is putting Mass. Governor Mitt Romney in the middle of a choice battle. The bill would make EC available through a pharmacist instead of a doctor, and an option for rape victims in emergency rooms. Sounds good to me.
But anti-choicers are looking to Romney, who describes himself as “personally pro-life,” to kill the bill. Melissa Kogut, director of NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts, said “it passed the Senate last year, and we have a pro-choice House this year - it will pass and end up on Gov. Romney's desk.”
So how will “personally pro-life” come into play in Romney’s seemingly inevitable decision? While he won’t comment on the bill, Romney says he won’t alter state laws while he serves.
I guess we’ll just have to wait and see on this one...
